
The previous generation of players did not 'accept' that the X games were being developed by a small studio at the mercy of publishers. This is according to the devs who shifted to Steam in part because of the greater exposure for the games and the fact that new people were coming to enjoy them. The other X games were favorably reviewed and played on Steam.

I am surprised at Steve Mill's critics, given that I enjoyed his novella and thought he would have been more forgiving.


I think the association with Steam is a double edge sword, because it exposed the weakness of the X games (of being developed by a small dev team, and at the mercy of a publisher) that previous generation of players accepted, but the new generation do not.
